Is Chiropractic safe?
Chiropractic treatments are very safe. Our interns are highly trained to know when to adjust and when to refer out. We have successfully treated thousands of patients who return for wellness care over many years.
Do we treat children, seniors, or pregnant women?
Chiropractic is for everyone. Children certainly benefit from the adjustments which can ensure a healthy transition into adulthood. Study can be hard on the body and chiropractic treatments can ensure that children are well adjusted, that their nervous system is fully functioning and any childhood injuries are resolved before they become problems. We even treat babies.
Our interns can treat those of us in our more advanced years. As we get older our body’s repair systems slow down, but this doesn’t mean we can help. Our interns are trained to adjust according to body type and issues, so even if you have osteoperosis we can adjust you safely, and make a difference to your body function.
Pregnant ladies can really suffer with back pain and/or pelvic pain. McTimoney chiropractic can offer a gentle approach to help relieve pain and prepare the body for birth.
How do I dress for a chiropractic appointment?
Loose fitting clothing is best, you will not be required to undress, but our interns will occasionally require to look at your skin, so a T-Shirt that can be lifted up and loose trousers are best.
Will I be sore afterwards?
Naturally you may feel a bit sore after the appointment, but this should be short lived. It is often referred to as a healing crisis, and this is often a good sign that things are beginning to improve as something will have changed in the functioning of your body.
Are there different styles of chiropractic?
Yes, there are many types of chiropractic. Not all of them require a ‘crack’ to provide a successful adjustment. The McTimoney method uses speed rather than force and therefore you may not experience a crack. Our interns are trained in many different adjustments and your treatment plan will be suited to you and what you prefer.
What should I bring with me?
It would be very helpful if you have prescription medication to bring a copy of this. Also, if you have any copies of any relevant medical imaging (X-Ray’s, MRI or CT Scans etc) if you could bring those too. Our interns are trained in how to read these images and it will help them understand your issues better.
What if Chiropractic can’t help me?
If chiropractic isn’t suitable for you, our interns will direct you to what is most appropriate after they have studied your case.
Can I bring someone with me?
Of course! We want you to feel as safe and relaxed as possible. If English isn’t your first language we will do our best to make your care plan understood, but if you wish to bring someone to translate then this is also fine. If you wish to see a female practitioner, we can always accommodate these requests.
Will I be treated in a private room?
Yes, we do not operate an open plan clinic, but the supervisor will have access to your treatment via video link.
Do I have to sign up for several sessions?
Your treatment plan will be tailored to your need. We will usually advise a treatment plan of once a week for 6 weeks, but this isn’t always the case. Some patients may require more treatment before seeing an improvement, some will require less. This depends on your body and what it has suffered.
What are the costs?
We offer highly competitive rates. Generally our charges are £25 per treatment, including your initial consultation, however we do offer a blue light discount and a student discount.
